Jim Holmes Art

Jim Holmes

Born in a dugout on the Colorado prairie, Jim Holmes is a true product of the vanishing American West. His father drove a stagecoach between Del Norte and Saguache, Colorado. His mother was a school teacher, who shepherded her students to the one room schoolhouse on the back of a mule.

A graduate of West Texas State College, Jim studied under Dr. Emilio Caballero, one of America’s foremost art jurors of the time. Dr. Caballero encouraged him to seek a career in sculpture and freely shared his extensive knowledge of the subject.

He has experienced the joys and rigors of a lifetime of farming and ranching in the unforgiving climate of that area and has known, first hand, many of the characters who shaped the history of the high plains. His sculpture reflects a knowledge of and feeling for that history.

A published writer and illustrator, Jim used sculpture as a relaxing pastime. Friends persuaded him to enter various art shows where he earned numerous awards. Now retired, he has entered the discipline of bronze sculpture on a full time basis.

Many of his early sculpture series have been sold out, but those shown here are still available in somewhat limited numbers, with prices quoted upon request.
